Cambrionix recently entered the Business Weekly Awards in a few categories.
Cambrionix was one of only a quartet of businesses that was named a finalist in three separate categories for the 25th Anniversary Business Weekly Awards – and voting in each of these sections was exceptionally close.
Some of the most celebrated angels and serial entrepreneurs in Cambridge and the East of England placed Cambrionix in the final judging for Disruptive Technology, Engineering Excellence and International Trade.
There was a hair’s breadth between the winners, according to Business Weekly CEO, Tony Quested.
He said: “Cambrionix came closest to winning the Engineering Excellence Award and, also the International Trade category and it took some inspired figures from Hexcel Composites and tWI, both world leaders in their fields, to pip Cambrionix for honours.
“If Cambrionix maintains its rate of progress over the next 12 months it stands a wonderful chance of taking one of the prized obelisks. To come so close in three categories in a year when the entry across the board was the greatest ever, according to the judges and sponsors, was a fabulous effort. This is a high quality business with brilliant long-term prospects.”
Our Financial Director, Adam O'Hara attended the awards ceremony. This is how he found the whole experience:
"When Cambrionix were nominated for the Business Weekly Awards I was fortunate enough to get the chance to go to the presentation and was looking forward to a great night out. However, when we found out that we had been shortlisted for an award I was very excited because I might get the chance to get on the podium and give a gracious winners speech!
Having made the shortlist, I was also allowed a plus-one so was accompanied by my lovely wife-to-be Rachel – a long time Cambrionix enthusiast. The awards ceremony was a black tie event at Queens College Cambridge and was filled with even more pomp and ceremony than I expected. Having never been before, this made for a fascinating and brilliant evening.
As we sat down to dinner and the impending awards announcements, my excitement quickly turned to nervousness as I waited to find out which award we were nominated for and more importantly whether I needed to unleash the winners speech!
We entered Cambrionix for three awards: Engineering Excellence, Disruptive Technology and International Trade Champion, and to my amazement we made the final shortlist for all three! This was an absolutely fantastic achievement and a testament to all the hard of every member staff through the company.
Despite the three opportunities, Cambrionix lost out on the winner’s trophy to three equally worthy winners. This did not disappoint the team as this was our first showing at the Business Weekly Awards and we were the most nominated company which is a very proud achievement for us all. The fact that we didn’t win in 2014 has only driven us even harder to continue improving and to come back next year and do even better by winning!"
