Why 49 ports?
The hub consists of a single 7 port hub controller with 7 additional hub controllers connected to it. The total number of ports is therefore 7ports x 7ports = 49.
What are protection plates?
The protection plates offer some protection to the connectors on the hub. With repetitive use the connectors may accidentally get damaged – the plates provide some protection against this. The protection plates also provide some level of ESD and EMC protection due to their shielding properties. The protection plates are manufactured from a fibreglass resin material, coated with copper and painted.
Are protection plates essential?
The protection plates are essential if the hub product is not fitted into an enclosure. If the product is fitted within an enclosure (which prevents the connectors from moving too much and the circuit board from being flexed) then the protection plates are not necessarily essential although in both cases they are strongly advised.
What is a cable pack?
A cable pack is a pack of 49 USB2.0 extender cables and one USB2.0 host cable. These allow you to connect devices which may not easily fit side by side within the hub. The extender cables can also be used to reduce ware and tear on the hub connectors. The cables can be considered a 'sacrificial element' which can wear out and be easily replaced if necessary.
